There are 70+ activities/categories. This is a county and state event for participants 50 and better! NC is the only state offering SilverArts as part of the Senior Games. SilverArts participants’ work will be on display at the Leland Cultural Arts Center from Monday (5/1) through Friday (5/5). This is another opportunity to get your work displayed to a broader audience. DESCRIPTION:The NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is looking for volunteers for the 2023 Spring Litter Sweep\, which runs from Saturday (4/15) – Saturday (4/29). Residents throughout the state are encouraged to participate in local efforts to help clean up NC’s roadways. NCDOT’s maintenance crews also dedicate 1 week of their time to pick up litter and collect orange bags placed on the roadsides by volunteers. DESCRIPTION:The 24th semi-annual Operation Medicine Cabinet drug take-back event at Dosher Memorial Hospital is scheduled for Thursday (4/6) from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Local residents are invited to drop off unwanted and expired prescription medications at the hospital front entrance\, where law enforcement then takes what is collected for safe incineration. One of the conveniences of this event is that it is designed so that you can “drive through and drop off\,” without having to leave your car. At Dosher’s last drug drop in October 2022\, over 800 local households discarded more than 15\,000 expired or unwanted narcotic pills and nearly 2\,300 milliliters of narcotic liquids. Entrants will gather at the Woodlands Pavilion for a packet of clues to find 10-12 locations and meet back at the pavilion by 5:00 PM\, when you’ll enjoy music and prizes for Best Team Name\, Best Team Shirts/Costumes\, and Best Team Time. \nBring snacks and BYOB. \nTickets are $25.00 per person and all proceeds go to fund Brunswick County nonprofit agency grants. Only 118 tickets are available so don’t delay! DESCRIPTION:Southport Sail and Power Squadron will present “Emergency Medicine for Boaters” on Saturday (4/8) at Cape Fear Regional Jetport\, 4015 Airport Rd. in Southport. The class will cover emergency medical problems\, from onshore tick and spider bites to offshore near drownings and fractures and plenty in between. Presented by an experienced emergency physician and boater\, the class will offer an easy-to-understand review of medical problems you may encounter on the water and off when medical help is not nearby. The cost is $15.00\, which includes a full copy of course material. Registration will begin at 8:30 AM\, with the class starting at 9:00 AM. Lisa Erdeljon\, who serves as assistant to the Rector at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. She attended seminary at Yale Divinity School in 2017. Jim Daly will be the leader and ushers are John and Betty Lewis. Our organist is Peter Borgia and special music will be provided by Ellen Dorsett (bass) and Paul Wood (tenor sax.) They have been playing together since 2005. Please come and worship with us at your “Little Chapel in the Woods”!
