DESCRIPTION:Southport Sail and Power Squadron will present “Emergency Medicine for Boaters” on Saturday (4/8) at Cape Fear Regional Jetport\, 4015 Airport Rd. in Southport. The class will cover emergency medical problems\, from onshore tick and spider bites to offshore near drownings and fractures and plenty in between. Presented by an experienced emergency physician and boater\, the class will offer an easy-to-understand review of medical problems you may encounter on the water and off when medical help is not nearby. DESCRIPTION:The Cape Fear Flyfishers meet every third Wednesday (except summers) at 6:15 PM at the St. James Community Center. Our next meeting on 3/15 promises a great presentation from Captain Jon Huf\, a long-time international and US guide. He will share his insights into striper fishing on the Cape Fear near Wilmington\, where he has had impressive results. He’ll also share his reds and local Tarpon fishing experience. Weather permitting\, we will practice fly casting in the ponds next to the center at 5:00 PM. Bring your gear or borrow one of the instructor’s many rods. We welcome anyone new to the area or new to fly fishing. Opportunities abound for local fishing or fishing trips sponsored by the club.

Bring your own beverages (soft drinks\, beer or wine)\, appetizers/snacks to share\, and your dancing shoes. Cat-a-Tonic will rock the Community Center and keep us on the dance floor all night! Tickets are $15.00 each and can be purchased by check only at the Community Center on Monday (1/30) from 10:00 AM – Noon and Wednesday (2/8) from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Questions? Featured speakers will present information on the National Association of Veterans and Families\, which provides support and advocacy services for wartime veterans\, spouses and families\, Operation At Ease\, which provides active duty military personnel and their immediate families with a complimentary weekend of rest\, relaxation and recreation\, and the Patriot Guard Riders. The Brunswick County Veteran Service office will also provide updates on the Department of Veteran Affairs benefits. Light refreshments will be served. Open to the Public. Coastal Consumer Showcase – Thursday\, February 9\, 2022 @ St. James Community Center-4pm-7pm. \nNo matter if you are new to the area or just want to know what’s new to the area\, the Coastal Consumer Showcase is a must attend event. We know that sometimes it is difficult to find a business that provides a product or service. You can search the Chamber’s Business Directory but going to an event where you can see the product or talk with the business owner about their services\, is extremely valuable. For this reason\, the Chamber holds the Coastal Consumer Showcase. \nThe Coastal Consumer Showcase is held annually each winter from 4pm-7pm at the St. James Community Center\, 4136 Southport-Supply Road\, St. James\, NC 28461. The Showcase is a public event organized by the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce. There are many free giveaways provided by the participating businesses. \n• Free Samples\n• Free Giveaways\n• $100 Cash Drawing\n• Pick-A-Prize Auction \nAdmission is free. Register for the $100 Cash Drawing. Each vendor will donate prize for the Pick-A-Prize Auction. Those who register for the $100 Cash Drawing will receive one ticket for the Pick-A-Prize Auction. You may purchase as many additional auction tickets as you would like: 5 tickets for $5.00 and 20 tickets for $10.00. At 6:30pm the Chamber will draw the winners for the Pick-A-Prize Auction prizes and will notify the winners ASAP by email. Winners will pick up their prize at the business donating the item. The Chamber will notify the winner of the Cash Drawing ASAP as well. \nWhat is a Pick-A-Prize Auction? Register and get a free ticket or purchase additional tickets. There will be a “bag” in front of each prize at every vendor booth. You determine which prize(s) you would like to a chance to win. Then you place your ticket(s) in the bag(s) of that prize(s).
